Was Trapped at Denaby Baths

10 years old Jimmy O’Rorke of 32 Ellershaw Lane, Conisbrough, on Wednesday got his head stuck in the turnstile at Denaby Baths, and was imprisoned for nearly 90 minutes while attendance in Bath officials tried to set him free.

At first it was thought that Jimmy was joking but when he began to cry it was realised that he was really stuck. A bath attendant tried to get his head out but realised that it was very dangerous to do so without removing a bar.

“A slight movement of the turnstile would have broken his neck and slight pressure would have strangled him”, the attendant told the “Times”.

The attendant phoned for the Bath superintendent, Mr Cyril Rich, who brought along the council deputy surveyor and a Council Road Foreman.

Between them they loosen the bolts on the turnstile and released Jimmy.

Two minutes later Jimmy was swimming happily in the water. None the worse for his experience.
