Arthur Robinson´s Come Back

Denaby Main 183 for 8                                                                    Bentley 182

G Worthington 34, A Robinson 76; W Marshall 5-43       F Laverick 31, Boweres 38; A Robinson 3-13, G L Robinson 3-25

Denaby Main have opened nobly with a sporting victory over Bentley and I do not suppose we shall see a better match on the Denaby ground all the season. Bentley proved worthy opponents. Their batting sagged in the middle, but their bowler, Bowers, hit bravely and quite confounded the Denaby attack, which had been almost automatically ticking off the Bentley batsmen.

Bentley, with the help of this hero, managed to finish with a formidable score of 182, and Denaby’s task was converted from simplicity to difficulty. However, they got the runs in just over 100 minutes, thanks chiefly to Arthur Robinson, who spent all last season trying to “come back” and has managed it at the first attempt this turn.

Now all you people were been advising hearth to wrap his ancient and palsied limbs in an umpire´s coat, what about an innings of 76 for a first knock?

Worthington laid the foundation for a good score, and Arthur built it with some glory sitting. Then there was a dangerous collapse against Marshall, but Harry Atkins, the second team, roast the occasion and just managed to put the coping stone on, so that Denaby one with a couple of wickets standing.

I am very glad of Arthur Robinson success. There is not a keen cricketer alive, and it really did begin to look last year as if his day was done. It seems he was only getting his second wind. He was the most effective bowler to, on the Denaby side, with three for 12.

Marshall had the best figures of the match with five for 43 and he and Bowers certainly made great efforts for the visitors.

It was a thoroughly interesting match, and if there were more, such cricket would boom at Denaby.
