Brawn Wins
Lincoln in Luck at Denaby

Denaby United 2 Lincoln City Reserves 3

It is easy to be wise after the event, but it was clear when the teams took the field that against the strongly built Lincoln side Denaby would have to be determined and steady to win through. They were in good spirit, and at the beginning put in a strenuous 15 minutes. They had Lincoln just where they wanted them; swept them off their feet, and before they knew what was happening Denaby were two goals up. This good lead was a result of brilliant team play.

Never before this season do remember Denaby scoring from a corner kick, but both of Saturday’s goal were got in that way. Seven minutes after the start Allen scored from a pass by Brown (F) and a minute later Brown (F) scored the second. Denaby kept up the pace, but Lincoln began to find things out, and once or twice a day look at the Denaby goal. Denaby held up, and Windle and Bisby saw to it that the Lincoln forwards did not get to near.

Denaby forwards were nonplussed and after 37 minutes Dovey reduced the lead. The equaliser was scored by Maidment three minutes before half-time.

After the interval, Denaby seemed able to all their own again, and started the second half more warily. There was some excellent forward work, is Lincoln centre danger, and unfortunately handed out some rough stuff. If Denaby and wanted to play them at this game they would have had the worst of it because of their inferior stature and way, but they did not show the least inclination to retaliate.

The efforts of Lincoln were sufficient to put Denaby off their game, however, and very near the end Dovey shot during a scramble and Windle, attempting to clear, but through his own goal.
