Denaby Miners At Variance.

William Perry and Edward Freeman, two Denaby miners, were charged with having been drunk and disorderly at Denaby Main on the previous Saturday. Both the defendants denied the offence.

Freeman stated that Perry struck him and knocked him down, and he had to send for the police or he would have been killed.

Perry: Didn’t you offer to fight me for a sovereign?

Freeman: No, I hadn’t got a sovereign; you wanted to fight me for half a sovereign.

The demeanour of the defendants became so threatening that the Chairman interposed, and said they had better shake hands and be friends.

Perry was fined 10s. and costs, and Freeman was ordered to pay 5s. and costs.
