Soldier – Egan, Thomas – Killed in Great Advance

Private Thomas Egan
York and Lancaster

10 Annerley St, Denaby Main, has been missing since July 1, 1916, and is now presumed killed.

His family received the following letter from commander Sergeant Major E Jones:

“I am sorry to inform you that I received no information of your brother Private Egan. He had been missing since July 1. All endeavours have been made to find out what happened to him, but without success.

Therefore I am afraid he was killed on that day. To you and all his relatives I offer my deepest sympathy in your loss.

He is missed by all his old friends, but how much more is he a loss to you!”

Private Egan, was 21 years of age, was a son of Mr and Mrs Michael Egan.

He had been serving two and half years, and 18 months of his service he performed in France.

Before enlistment he was a pony driver at Cadeby Main.
