Sheffield United’s Action

There is a brighter side  to the sad business of Bennett’s death.

Mr J Nicholson secretary of the Sheffield United club, informs me that is the intention of the Bramall Lane people to set aside the match between Sheffield United Reserve and Mexborough on the Bramall Lane ground on Easter Monday for the benefit of Bennett’s family.

This is a most generous action on the part of Bennett’s old club, who left the club, having received a fairly substantial benefit. All this has been done out of pure sympathy for Bennett’s family.

There are great prospects, for this Bank Holiday fixture, which is the only match in Sheffield that day; which is interesting to all Sheffield’s by reason of the keen fight between Sheffield United reserve and Sheffield Wednesday reserve, which given fair conditions should be a centre of attraction to hundreds of people in the locality.

A crowd of 9,000 or 10,000 and a “gate” of anything up to £100 would not surprise me in the least.

Thousands of visitors from the Don Valley spending their Bank Holiday in Sheffield might do worse than spend an hour at Bramall Lane on this occasion. We hope the benefit will be a “bumper.”
