Denaby Hospital Sunday

The annual open-air festival arranged by the Mexborough and District Friendly Societies’ Council in aid of the Fullerton Hospital, Denaby Main, took place yesterday in glorious weather.

The procession, composed of the usual bodies, paraded tne village, and later assembled the football field held where , Mr. Henry Baker presided.

In his speech he regretted the absence of Mr. J. S. H. Fullerton, ol Noblethorpe Hall, who should have presided, and appealed all present to continue their support of such a noble institution as the Fullerton Hospital.

Mr. H. S. Witty dealt with the financial part of the workings. Since the opening of the hospital the workmen employed at the collieries had, by means their penny a week levy, contributed no less than £4,359 —(applause)—or an average of £907 per year. In addition they had received in subscriptions amounts totaling £1.386.

During 1906 they had treated 126 patients, in 1907 the number was 53, and up to the present time this year the number treated was 58. During that time 15 deaths had taken place.

He paid a tribute the energy of the Friendly Societies Council and Mr. Thomas Weston, of the Reresby Arms, whose collecting box realised £8 10s. (Applause).

Mr. S. J. Bridge and Mr. Wormald, Rotherham, also spoke and at the close the usual vote of thanks were passed.

During the afternoon a chorus, under Mr. Barstow, gave several well-known choruses, and a string band, under Mr. Ben Wilson, assisted.
