Denaby to Apply for Admission to Midland League

If all the schemes in the Don and Dearne Valleys for the formation of Midland League football clubs next season take concrete shape, there is a probability of some very interesting local sport.

Following hard upon the heels of the enthusiasts at Wath, Wombwell, and Frickley comes Denaby, where, at a largely attended meeting on Saturday, it was decided to apply for affiliation to the League.

Denaby, of course, have run well in the Midland League in previous years, and have turned out some brilliant first-class men. Six years ago the club withdrew from the League with a debt of over £500 on its shoulders. Inability to pay its way was chiefly caused through lack of support, although, from the optimistic tone of the meeting on Saturday, there is strong reason to forecast that this will not be the experience in the future. The club’s debt has now been reduced to about £100, mainly as a result of the energies displayed by the president, Mr. H. W. Smith.

Denaby possesses an excellent ground, which is well equipped and conveniently situated, and this should go strongly in favour of the application being successful. A substantial sum of money has already been secured.
