Nineteen-year-old Guardsman Bernard Coope, son of Mrs. J. W. Morte and the late Mr. Charles Coope, “Capri,” Cadeby Road, Sprotborough, who has died of wounds received while serving with the B.E.F. in Flanders, worked at Cadeby Main Colliery before he enlisted in the Coldstream Guards ten weeks before, the outbreak of war.

Guardsman ‘Coope, who resided at Cadeby before moving to Sprotborough about three .years ago, was at one time a member of the Denaby St. Alban’s Catholic: ‘Scouts.

His friends have informed his family that Coope was one of 30 soldiers who volunteered to blow up a, bridge.
