A Colliery Fatality.

In another Denaby inquest, also held by Mr. W. H. Carlisle, Coroner, a verdict Accidental death was brought concerning the death, in the Fullerton Hospital, Denaby, on Saturday, of Ernest Butterfield (15), colliery haulage hand, of 42, Barmborough Street, Denaby, who received fatal injuries while working as a haulage hand at the Cadeby Main Colliery.

Fred W. Stocks gave evidence that the deceased was trapped between two runs of tubs while he was coupling the tubs together.

In reply to the Coroner, who asked if the deceased had been instructed in the method of coupling the tubs, witness said that he had picked it up his own.

Answering Mr. Scott, Inspector of Mines, witness said that the method used in that case was to save time and trouble.

The Coroner said that had the right method been used the accident would not have happened. Fatal accidents of that nature occurred when proper methods were not utilised with the idea of saving time
