A Conisborough Wager.

A crowd people assembled outside the Red Lion Hotel, Conisborough, yesterday morning to witness the start of walking match for a wager made by Mr. J. Stephenson, traveller, who backed himself for £5 to walk to the Clock corner Doncaster under the hour. The distance is 5 ½ miles.

The road was very greasy and dirty until the tramway at Balby was reached.

Mr. Stephenson was paced by Tim Darley, of Conisborough, and several persons’ accompanied him in conveyances.

The full distance was covered in one minute under the hour.
