A Lunatic at Large at Mexbro’

Yesterday morning a collier from Denaby was observed running along High street, Mexbro’ , in the direction of Swinton, pursued by a crowd of men, women, and children.

The poor fellow was fleet of foot, and was not easily overtaken. Although well-nigh exhausted by exertion, he was laughing inordinately, and appeared in high glee. When captured, on the Swmton road, he was put in a cart and driven to the surgery of Dr. Sykes, medicai officer of health to the Mexbro’ Local Board, who certified that the man was insane.

Subsequently he was removed to Wadsley.

It is stated that tome time ago he was a soldier in India, and has suffered more or less since then from the effects of sunstroke.
