Abortive Raid on Conisbrough Office

Hacksaw Used on Bank Safe

Optimistic raiders who broke into Conisbrough sub-branch office of the Midland Bank Ltd. over the Christmas holidays attempted to open a 4 cwt. reinforced steel safe with a hacksaw.

The safe, which was dragged from a front office into a back room bore two half inch cuts, apparently made by a hacksaw, but it remained unopened.

Manager of the Mexborough branch, Mr. J. Radge, told the “South Yorkshire Times” that the intruders gained entry by breaking into empty premises next door to the sub-office in Church Street. Conisbrough. They took up the floorboards in an upstairs room and lowered themselves into the bank premises.
