“Accident” Verdict

A 70 year old Conisbrough widow, who died after a fall, tapped on the living room wall for five hours in an attempt to get help, a Doncaster inquest heard on Monday.

The Doncaster district coroner, Mr K. D. Potter, recorded a verdict of “accidental death” on Mrs Edith Roberts, of Denaby Street, Conanby, Conisbrough, who was said to have told her son-in-law. Male nurse Mr Christopher Oldfield, of Nottingham, that after she had fallen in the kitchen on November 18, she dragged herself into the living room and knocked to attract a neighbour’s attention.

The inquest was told that a neighbour called the doctor and Mrs Roberts was taken to Doncaster Royal infirmary where she died on November 25. Death was due to a pulmonary embolism following a fracture of the thigh.
