Alleged Blows at Hotel.

Denaby Man Said to be in Critical Condition.

Dominic Finnan (57), unmarried miner, of Balby Street, Doncaster, was charged at Doncaster yesterday with having inflicted grievous bodily harm on John Alfred Lawrence, 74, Firbeck Street, Denaby, on Saturday.

Superintendent A. J. Minty, applying for a remand, said the complainant, the accused, and others were drunk the Denaby Main Hotel on Saturday. Some trouble arose in the hotel, and afterwards in the yard outside. As result of what took place there Lawrence was now in the Sheffield Infirmary in critical condition. In fact, Saturday night his life was despaired of. He was suffering from internal injuries.

Later inquiries showed that had spent a comfortable night.

It was alleged that he was suffering from injuries caused blows struck by the prisoner. In reply to the charge, Finnan said, “I never touched the man.”

He was remanded in custody for a week.
