Alleged theft by Farm Servants.

Wednesday at the West Riding Police Court, Doncaster, William Whitham, farm foreman and William Smith, Conisborough, were charged with stealing a quantity of linseed cake, the property of Mr Thomas Hudson, of the Ferry Farm at Conisborough on the 23rd inst.

The prisoners were seen to go into the stable, and Smith came out with a sack on the back, which contained a quantity of linseed cake.

When accosted by the policeman, he said the sack contained chaff, and it had been given to him by the other prisoner.

They were committed for trial at Sheffield Intermediate Sessions where Smith was sentenced to 3 months hard labour and Whitham was aquitted.
