Ambulance Classes at Denaby Main.

The great need of ambulance knowledge in mining districts like this is often brought very clearly before us, and when doctors give their time in service gratuitously (which they invariably do) for the benefit of others, it would be indeed showing a lack of gratitude and that appreciation which the nature of that service so justly merits, if good classes did not result, and the people did not seek to acquire upon such easy terms, so useful, and nowadays, very necessary learning.

At Denaby for some time good work has been carried on in this worthy movement by Dr Gilchrist, and classes are also to be commenced by Dr Twigg, who, with his usual magnanimity, has consented to give his services.

A preliminary meeting was held in the new schools on Friday, when officers were elected, and other arrangements made for the holding of “first-aid” classes.

Mr W. H. Chambers was elected president; treasurer, Mr Charles Ray; treasurer, Mr Charles Rayner; secretary, Mr H. S. Witty. Upwards of 40 names have been given in and will form two classes per week, namely, one of Friday evenings and another on Saturday mornings, commencing on Friday the 23rd .

The ladies class, under Dr Gilchrist’s tuition, which has Mr W. H. Chambers for its president, is arranging for a tea and dance to be held on Tuesday, April 27; tickets 1s 6d each. The social event will, no doubt, be a most successful one.
