Away win by Makeshift Denaby Team.

Holbeck 0 Denaby United 1

With a makeshift team, Denaby United went to Holbeck for their Midland league engagement on Wednesday, dreading what was going to happen – but they came home winners 1-0.

With players unable to get time off work to make the journey, Denaby had only three first-team men in the 11 be made up with reserves and a couple of University students, home for the Easter vacation.

“It was a fine performance. They played exceptionally well and I was delighted with the way everybody pulled their weight,” said player manager Harry Hough.

And a fine performance was rounded off 3 min from the end with a great goal from inside right Brian Gray. Fainting a pass to the wing, he sent the full-back the wrong way, slipped through the gap and cracked the ball into the net.

And after the win, Harry Hough – for the match at Ilkeston this Saturday – make some sweeping changes from the team which beat Skegness 2 – 0 last Saturday.

“It wouldn’t be fair to leave some of these lads out after the way they played on Wednesday,” said Harry, “it is unfortunate for the others, but they can expect this type of thing especially at this time of year.”

From last Saturday’s team, out go right back Whant, centre half, Wild and centre forward, King. Left half Ainscough, is under suspension and left-winger Hall is ill
