Boston Goal had the Right Effect on Denaby

There was plenty of excitement in this game between Denaby and Boston at Tickhill Square on Saturday, when Denaby added another two points to their already good total for the second round of the Midland League competition, yet although clearly superior throughout the game, they were unable to make the most of their opportunities in the first half, and were dogged by bad luck in the second half. Their score would have been much higher, but for miraculous saves by Schofield the Boston goalkeeper, and stout work by the defence.
Denaby had the better of the opening exchanges, and Carr brought Schofield to his knees to save the first shot of the game, and after a Boston attack had come to nought Ardron headed over. In a Boston breakaway, Happs was hard pressed, and headed the ball out to give Boston a corner, but Noble sent the ball into the Denaby goalkeeper´s hands. At the other end, Ardron put in a hard shot which Schofield only just managed to hold. Tunstall attempted to get the Boston forwards moving, but there was only Denaby in the picture. Denaby, however did not make the most of their opportunities and in one of Boston´s dashes downfield BARTON flashed a low drive past Gibson into the net. Denaby were stimulated by this setback and ARDRON equalised before half-time.
After the interval, Denaby set about their task with great determination and GIBBS put them ahead, MORALEE netting to give them a two goals lead. Boston were on the defensive all the second half and but for one or two raids which fizzled out, they failed to make any headway. Denaby continued to hammer at the Boston defence and only fine defensive work kept them out. Ardron was the chief source of trouble to Boston, and he, Gibbs and Moralee spent very little of the second half out of the Boston half.
