Denaby Man fined £5 for Assault

John Squires (20), labourer, of Blyth Street, Denaby, was eating fish and chips were some one knocked the fish out of the paper – so he hit another man in the mouth.

This was stated at Doncaster West Riding Magistrates Court on Saturday, when Squires was fined £5 with 18s 4d costs for assaulting Samuel Anderson, causing actual bodily harm.

Inspector F.Brown said Anderson went into a fish and chip shop in Doncaster Road, Mexborough, and there were three young men standing outside, eating fish and chips. Squires came back into the shop and spoke to the woman behind the counter, then he left.

As Anderson came out of the shop Squires approached him and said: “You are something to do with this trouble having to?”

“Anderson said ‘No’ and then without warning he was struck a violent blow in the face,” the inspector added. “He fell to the ground. He had a cut lip and swollen face.”

When seen by the police, Squires said: “Yes, I hit him. Somebody knocked my fish on the floor. I don’t know who knocked it off my paper. I shall have to watch my temper in future.”
