Sapper Horace Bellamy (West Riding) 


Sapper Horace Bellamy, of the West Riding Royal engineers, son of Mr and Mrs John Bellamy, 28 Dinnington Terrace, Dinnington, for many years resident in Balby Street, Denaby Main, has been awarded the Military Medal for bravery and devotion to duty on the field.

Sapper Bellamy is only 18 years of age, and has been serving in France 15 months, having enlisted at the age of 16.

Mr and Mrs Bellamy have two other son serving, Trooper John Bellamy, the Sherwood Rangers (Nottingham Yeomanry) and Sapper Harold Bellamy, of the Royal Engineers, who has been “gassed” and wounded.

Their two sons-in-law have also gone, private John Holmes, R.A.M.C.of 20 Maltby Street and Cpl Walter Ratcliffe, A.S.C. of Sheffield.
