Breach of the Locomotive Act

At Doncaster, on Monday, Edward Morton, of Conisborough, was summoned for a breach of the Locomotive Act.

A constable saw the man with a traction engine on the Thorne Road, Doncaster, and found him travelling at the rate of 3 ½ mph, the Act only specifying the rate should be two miles.

The defendant said it was Bank Holiday, he really was doing his best to get out of the town. He had been with engines about eight years, and had never received a complaint.
Fined 10 shillings and costs.
