Breaches of Colliery Rules.

On Saturday, at the Doncaster Police Court, John Brown, miner, Denaby Main, was summoned at the instance of the Cadeby Colliery Company for a breach of rule No. 101.

Mr. Aiziewood appeared for the company, and stated that the defendant had worked the coal out for a distance of 9ft. and 6ft. in depth. They were bound to take these prosecutions as too men endangered their own lives as well as the lives of others.

John Lumb, deputy, visited the north district, and found the defendant in stall No. 41, and the coal had been worked for the distance stated, and as far as he could see there had been no sprag set

The defendant said he had had a sprag set, but they had finished working in that part, and he had removed it to a fresh place.

Mr. Aiziewood said they were not supposed to move the sprags.

The Bench inflicted a fine of 15s., including costs.
