A Broken Gate

Two Denaby youths, John Hughes (18), pony driver, and Joseph Robins (17), a haulage hand, were each fined 20 shillings at Doncaster on Tuesday for having stolen a wooden gate, the property of a Conisborough farmer on October 19.

Inspector Lumb said that of October 19 about 9:20 pm, PC Hibbott heard the sound of breaking wood, and later saw the two lads carrying some wood. He stopped them and asked them where they had got the one from, and they said that found it in the edge.

he took them back to a gate, and found that it had been smashed, and the lads then confessed.
