“Cupboard” Was Bare
Cadeby Office Break In a Fiasco

A gang of thieves who raided a works office at Cadeby colliery on Thursday evening last missed a haul of over £500 by a few hours, when they stole the safe from the office of J. L. Kier and co.

The gang had to a 5 inch thick casing from round the safe which they thought contained the wages of about 70 workmen. But the workmen had been paid and there was no money left in the safe.

The office door had been prised open and lumps of concrete had been left lying about the office where the safe had been.

The theft was discovered by Mr Roderick Scholey, general foreman on the site where the firm are building a new washery plant. Nothing else had been taken from the office.

When Mr Scully discovered the loss he organised a search but the missing safe could not be found.
