Children’s Diamond Jubilee Cot fund.

In addition to the various school contributions acknowledged in our issue of last week, we are glad to state that Mr Smith, headmaster of the Conisborough board school, has paid over £1 in sums brought by his boys. The sum of 6s 7d. From the Conisborough Board (infant) School was inadvertently omitted from last week’s list. Mr Smith who has acted as secretary of the Conisborough Jubilee fund, reports that his committee has remembered the children’s cause in disposing of their balance, but it is not quite certain yet what the balance will be, but it is hoped the cot may benefit to the extent of £3 or more.

From the other end of the valley, Mr Swift, the headmaster, Brampton Bierlow Endowed school, writes : “I am pleased to say that the Wath Jubilee committee have decided to hand the sum of 14s 8d (balance in hand after paying all their accounts to the Jubilee cot fund.”

The spontaneous expressions of sympathy from Conisborough and Wath cannot but be very gratifying to the teachers, who have worked in so wholehearted a way to make their Jubilee Memorial a splendid success. The Mexborough Jubilee committee wound up their affairs with a slight deficit, so nothing can be expected from that source, but probably the Swinton committee will take the hint when disposing of any balance they may have. Mr Steer, of the Wath Victoria school, has added to the amount already published, until it now stands at upwards of £5 and Mrs Kaye, of Old Denaby church school, promises to provide a tea at the village, the proceeds to go towards augmenting their contribution. From Barmborough, the master, Mr Harry Dorsey, writes that whilst unable this year to make an appeal to his pupils, yet so cordially does he favour the movement that he promises a private subscription. Both on every hand, with the exception now well, the most encouragement is received.
