Christmas in Rhodesia

Mrs Nellie Vail, of 82 Elm Green Lane, Conisbrough, who returned on Saturday from a four-month visit to Kitwe, Northern Rhodesia, where she had been staying with her daughter (formerly Miss Veronica Vail) was very delighted with an unusual form of Christmas morning entertainment – an African ceremonial dance in front of her daughters’s home.

But although there were the usual Christmas festivities – the climate wasn’t at all conducive to the atmosphere of an old English Christmas.

Her daughter, Mrs R.J.Short, establish an international reputation as a dancer with the Saddler’s Well ballet. She danced in America, Scandinavia and on the Continent, and she met her husband during the her last tour.

During this tour, Miss Vail danced before Queen Elizabeth the Mother. She and her husband have twin children.
