Coal Stealing At Conisborough.

At Doncaster, on Wednesday, John W. Barber, transport driver, and Joseph Mason, miner, bot of Conisborough, were charged with having stolen coal value £1, from the Conisborough Cliff Company, Ltd. The men pleaded ‘guilty.’

Mr. W. L. Crawford, prosecuting, said that on the company’s premises there was a stock of Silesian nuts, and in consequence of depredations special observations were kept, and at 12-45 a.m. on Sunday, the two defendants were caught putting in coal sacks.

Barker said, ‘I wish I’d never come,’ and Mason, ‘This is the first time I’ve been.’

The Chairman (Mr. J. Dymond) said that he thought it was disgraceful that men should steal rather than work. There would be no more fines after this in such cases. Each defendant was fined 40s.
