Colliery Prosecution of Denaby Men.
Stephen Scully miner, of Denaby was summoned by the Denaby Main Colliery Company for breach of special rule 99.
Defendant appeared, and pleaded guilty.
Mr. W. H. Gichard, solicitor, of Rotherham, prosecuted, and stated that the offence the defendant was charged with was taking matches down the mine. The mine was a fiery one.
The Company did not desire to press the case or the other one they would hear Later, but they wished to state through him that in the future that class of offence would be pressed by them at the Court. They wanted to put a stop to the dangerous practice.
The defendant was fined 15as including costs.
Thomas Ratcliffe, a filler, of Denaby, was summoned for a similar offence committed on the 13th September.
Mr. Gichard said there no special circumstances attached to the case and the penalty of 15s. inclusive of the costs was imposed.
