‘Comprehensive’ Plan is Submitted For Approval.

A Far-Reaching plan which, if implemented, will change the face of education in the Division, was due to have been considered for approval by Mexborough Divisional Education Executive last night.

The plan is contained in recommendations put forward by a special committee which has been investigating the Divisional education system in consultation with primary and secondary school teachers in the area. It proposes reorganisation on fully-comprehensive lines at Mexborough, Swinton, Conisbrough, Rawmarsh, Dearne and Wath.

It approved by the Executive, the scheme, described as ‘long term,’ will be submitted to the County Council and then to Ministry level.

At Conisbrough extensions to Conisbrough Northcliffe High School would take second priority in buildings. At present about 40 Conisbrough children a year gain selective places. From the opening of the enlarged Comprehensive School all Conisbrough children would cease to take selective examinations and remain at Conisbrough Comprehensive until after ‘O’ Level at 15/16, and then proceed to a selected sixth form.
