Here are Mr W A Twelves, manager of the Conisborough branch of the National Provincial Bank Limited, since 1919, who retired yesterday, and his successor, Mr A.S. Whitehead, who comes to Conisborough from the Hull branch where he was accountant. Mr Whitehead takes up his duties today.

Mr Twelves is a well-known figure in the district, particularly as a musician and sportsman. He began his banking career at Chesterfield in 1895, with the old Sheffield Banking Company. After five years there he moved to the Head Office of the Sheffield Banking Company at George Street Sheffield.

In 1912 was appointed cashier at Mexborough, going to Conisborough seven years later. Mr Twelves has been treasurer to Conisborough UDC since the formation of that body, also treasurer of Edlington Parish Council. Has also been treasurer of Conisborough Hospital Demonstration and the Recreation Hall. Of the latter he is now president and freeman.

A prime mover in the musical circles of the town, Mr Twelves has been musical director of Conisborough Musical Society and was also formerly associated with the Mexborough Orchestra and Mexborough operatic Society. In 1908 Mr Twelves was a member of the party which made a Canadian tour, with Dr Coward and the Sheffield Musical Union.

Mr Twelves is a keen golfer and a member of the Rotherham Club. He is a life member of Mexborough Tennis Club. Other interests include amateur photography.

In 1913 he married Miss Reba Hobson, of Astoria, Oregon, USA and in 1920 visited his wife’s home. Mr Twelves now lives in Thrybergh.

Mr A.S Whitehead is an Associate of the Institute of Bankers. The entered the service of the National Provincial Bank Limited in 1911 at Manchester. The endlessly during the War and after three year’s service, mostly with the Salonica forces, was invalided out in 1918. He resume banking service at the Liverpool branch of the bank, remaining there three years, been transferred to the Leicester branch, then to the Inspection Department at Head Office in London.

In 1923 he was appointed cashier at the High Street branch, Sheffield, and after four years there was made assistant accountant at the George Street branch, Sheffield, which, previous to amalgamation with the National Provincial Bank Limited, was the Head Office of the old Sheffield Banking company. (Mr Twelves also saw service at this branch.)

After two years Mr White was appointed Accounted at the More branch, Sheffield, remaining there for 18 months, then being appointed to the Hull branch of the bank. After five years service as accountant at the Hull branch, Mr Whitehead as being appointed manager at Conisbrough.
