Tributes to Stalwarts
A record financial season was reported at the annual meeting of Conisborough Cricket, Lawn Tennis and Bowling Club at the Alma Hotel, on Wednesday, Mr T Wilson presided.
The Chairman said the first team won their section of the Doncaster and District Cricket League only to lose in the semi-final. He said he only hoped that next season honours would come their way again, and he strongly appealed to members to help to find new playing members as several of the last season’s players had now left the district.
The secretary, Mr W. T. Thompson, said the knockout competition broke all records and receipts and expenditure. He paid tribute to the sterling work rendered to the club by Mr W. P. Kelly, the club’s treasurer, who had unfortunately to relinquish the position on leaving the district. His services had always been warmly appreciated, and he always had the club at heart.
The financial statement showed that the club finished the season with a balance in hand of £13 6s 3d. The income (a record) amounted to £286 10s 9d.
It was decided to join the following competitions next season: Doncaster and District league (Divisions Two and Three), and the Balby knockout competition. The questions of joining the Doncaster knockout competition was deferred into a later meeting.
The following officials were elected:
President, Coun. J. I. Webster; Hon. Vice presidents, Rev. W. J. T. Pascoe, Rev. B. T. Croft, rev. W. Atherton; Hon. General secretary, Mr W. Thompson; treasurer, Mr A. B. Bennett; Captains, first-team T Kelly, second-team W Thompson; Vice Captains, first-team, G. Soar, second-team, E. Curtis; General Committee; Messrs. A. Moore, T. Wilson, Humphries, H Ellis,. Lowther, J. Haggar, A. Bennet, W. Cranidge, Captains and Vice Captains.
Knockout competition secretaries: Messrs. H. Humphreys and J. Jeffcoat.
The services of Mr. W. P. Kelly were placed on record and a silver cup, played for in the Knockout Competition is to be named the “W. P. Kelly cup.” The services of Mr H. Mills, an old club stalwart, were also recorded.
The club’s average prizewinners were: first-team: batting, J. Curtis (the youngest member of the side; bowling J. Jeffcoat; second-team, batting and bowling, H Ellis.
Special recognition will be made to J. Curtis on his feat in registering more runs in the league than any other player.
