Cricket Match and Presentation at Conisborough

A cricket match was played among the members of the Conisborough Cricket Club on Easter Monday, but owing to the many counter attraction very few assembled to judge the club’s prospects for the coming year.

Mr William Appleyard’s team came out winners over Mr Bedford’s team by 58 runs.

After the match tea was partaken of, for which Mrs Nesbitt catered in a usual style. After tea presentation remit to G Marlborough for the best batting average for last season, and J Day for the best bowling average. For the best batting average Mr S Elliott presented G Marlborough with a bat, alpha ball and Mr W.W Norwood presented J Day with a pair of boots.

Conisbrough Clubs Prospects for the Coming Season

We have every confidence in stating that the prospect for the Conisborough Cricket Club for the coming season is a bright one. No new players have come into the team, that several of the players who only played once or twice last season are promised to play regularly this season. The club have joined the Swinton and District cricket alliance again, where they finished third from the bottom last year, but under new captain (Mr W Appleyard) every hope is entertained that they will win the League this year

Mr A Walker, was been captain for a number of years, still retains a place in the team, but this year, saying he was getting old, declined the captainship. Mr R.J.Clarkson as promises services regularly, and it is to be hoped he will do all it can to help the club.

The financial position at the end of last season was on the wrong side. The Ball committee handed over £14 as the result of the ball held for the benefit of the club, and Mr G Walker helped them a little further, but when it was taken into account it was found they were still £5 deficient.

During the season the pavilion has been extended and a tool house has been made, which items will not have to be contended with this coming season. Mr F Gledall has agreed to cut and roll the ground, the club having dispensed with the groundsman. This

So with fine weather and good gates the club ought to pay off the old debt, and at the same finish off the season with a substantial sum to carry forward. Mr GW Lawton has again accepted the secretaryship.
