Conisborough Education Committee
Nominees for Vacant Headship

Amended plans submitted by the County Education Architect for alterations to the Morley Place School, Conisborough, involving an estimated expenditure of £2,600 were approved at yesterday’s meeting of the Conisborough District Education Subcommittee, Father J. Holohan presiding.

The clerk (Mr. E. B. Stockdale), said that the plans showed that it was intended to utilise the whole of the building besides the road for cloakrooms, staff rooms, lavatories, and head teacher’s room. He thought the plans contained fine suggestions and the district had done exceptionally well.

The resignation was received of Miss. Wilfred E. Sykes, headmaster of the Station Road school, and it was agreed that the letter of appreciation be sent to him.

The committee considered at least 120 applicants for the position of successor to Mr. Sykes, and it was agreed that Mr. Albert E. Platt, B.Sc., of the Conisborough Middle School and Mr. Robert F. Charlton, of the Highfields School, Doncaster, be the committees nominees for interview when a successor is selected at Wakefield.

Mr. H. Gomersall and Farther Holohan were selected to represent the committee when the appointment is made.

It was reported that the following swimming certificates had been gained in the county council swimming tests: Middle school 32, Morley Place 16, Station Road 14, Bobby Street, 4, Denaby Main 18, St Albans 35.

A tender by Messrs Hadfield of Sheffield, of £83 15s, was accepted for the asphalting of the Station Road School playground.
