House-Painting Offers

Conisborough Man Sent For Trial.

Alleging that bad obtained money by fraud, ten summonses were heard at Rotherham yesterday against Arthur Clithero (35). painter, of 46. Northcliffe road, Conisborough.

The total involved was £23 10s.

Mr. E. Bellingham, assistant solicitor to the Corporation, who prosecuted, offered no evidence in a case of obtaining 10s. from Albert Thompson, of Ramsden road, and the case was dismissed.

Clithero’s procedure had been to house and ask the occupier if he required the house painted. If agreed an estimate was prepared there and then, and contract entered into. Clithero told the occupier he was working on his own and asked for something on account, as had to pay cash for his materials. All these statements might have been true, but, Clithero did not carry out his contract, and in the majority of the cases he did not re appear at all.

Defending, Mr. Donald Dunn said Clithero pleaded Not guilty,” and reserved his defence. Clithero was committed for trial at Leeds Assizes. Bail was allowed.
