Conisborough Man Who Followed His Pal

“We must help the police to keep law and order,” said Mr. Mark Nokes , chairman of the bench at Doncaster on Tuesday when he sent George Robert Mitchell (38), miner, Conisborough, to prison for one month for an assault on P.C. Bilbie. He was also fined 20s. For being drunk and disorderly. Walter Bagshaw (44), labourer, Conisborough, was also fined 20s for being drunk and disorderly.

P.C. Bilb this ie said that on October 31st he had to tell Bagshaw to go home. About half an hour later he saw Mitchell in Sheffield Road, Conisborough, and Bagshaw was with him, Bagshaw commenced using obscene language, witness asked for his name and address, which Bagshaw refused. Witness told him he would take him into custody. Mitchell said, “He’s my pal, and I am going with him” and he and another man started off to the station. On the way there he was struck by Mitchell and the three man ran away.
