Fire Alarm

Considerable alarm was caused in the Park Road district last Friday night just after 10 o’clock. Masses of flames were seen in the vicinity of Conisborough Lodge and the Parks, though by taking familiar landmarks it was obvious that neither farmstead was involved, and the fire was too low in the valley to be at Micklebring

Capt Clarkson of the Fire Get turned out with his car and a couple of police officers to investigate and found that it was a portion of the herbage and bushes along the railway line which had become ignited.

The fire blazed furiously for an hour or so.

New Footpath

Members of the Council are considering a footpath from Buckingham Road to Balby Street. Obviously the intention is to make a bypass for children attending Station Road School and to prevent a repetition of accidents on the Station Road.

A path could be provided, but would it be used as intended?

Children dearly love roads where there is a chance to indulge in the dangerous pastime of “jumping” motor lorries, and no amount of talking either in the home or in the school appears to be able to change them.

One fears that it would be a waste of money commendable as the project is.
