Conisborough Notes

New Baptist Church

One does not hear much about the Baptist Church which had just started in the village. The Rev JF Porteous from Doncaster, is a very kind and amiable man, and is very much beloved and respected by his flock in Doncaster. The Mission at Conisborough is under his direction. I understand that there are several families residing Conisborough who are members of the Baptist Church, and who no doubt by their influence will be pleased to worship according to their own method.

Ten shillings per night is rather what one may describe as a very long figure for the hire of a room – not rooms so as to be able to hold religious services, and yet this is a price asked by the School Board from the Baptists,

It looks to me that members of the Wesleyan Church are very much annoyed that another church should be started in the village, and by the action of the members on the Board they decided that a charge of 10 shillings per night should be made to try and keep them away.

Footpaths

Please note that the roads in Conisborough are about to be amended, patched up for the winter. The road by the Station Hotel is as bad as ever. I have written I complain about this matter before. I do wish that somebody would see Mr Woods the next time he visits Conisborough, are jerking down to the station Hotel, and asking to find the crossing.

A new asphaltic footpath has been made towards Denaby Main so that we must hope for better things in the future. There is no doubt Mr Chambers looks well off to the road in Derry Main. A page from his book of method might be useful to others.
