Conisbro’ Parish Council

A monthly meeting of this council was held on Monday night, when there were present Messrs C Holmes (chairman). J. Brocklesby, Harrison, Roebuck, Smithson Ravenscroft, Singleton. Robinson, Oglev Norwood, and the clerk (Mr. Hawkworth).

In reference In reference to the Town Well water supply, the Chairman suggested that the question had better be postponed until the next meeting, inasmuch as investigations were not yet sufficiently complete.

Mr. Brocklesby said he quite agreed with this view, and it was decided to act on the chairman ‘ s suggestion.

A letter was read from Mr. F. E. Nicholson, solicitor clerk to the Rural District Council, to the effect that no permission had been given by that authority to Mr. Norwood to take water from the Town Well.

A letter from Mr. Thos. Booth complained of the charges made in connection with the work of the brigade at the recent fire, and said he desired a scrutiny of the account. It was contended by the writer that one hour too much had been charged for every man who had worked.

The Chairman said the accuracy of Captain Jones had never been questioned before. Since the letter was sent, some weeks ago perhaps Mr. Booth had altered his opinion. He had the account. It was a shame the men were kept so long without their money. One man lost two days’ work over the fire. Such action did not give much encouragement to the fire brigade.

Mr Jones said the charges for the brigade were not questioned, but the charges for the pumpers.

Mr. Norwood thought they ought to pay the men and recover from Mr. Booth. They could pay the account, less the amount in dispute.

Mr. Brocklesby moved that the account be paid.

Mr. Smithson seconded, and the resolution was carried. The account amounted to £19. 10s. 6d.
