Conisbrough Club Take Up Challenge

Conisbrough Castle Motor Club are only too willing to apply a little polish to the six cups the Park Gate Iron and Steel Works Motor Club have left lying in the cupboard.

The Park Gate Club recently opened their doors to members outside the works in a bid to attract members willing to compete for the trophies they have had to keep in storage for four years.

The last organised rally run by Park Gate attracted three cars. Hearing of the offer, Conisbrough

Club Secretary, Tony Dodd, of West Street, Conisbrough, immediately threw down the motoring gauntlet.

“If they have trophies waiting for competitors, then they have to wait no longer,” he said. “We will provide the cars and the drivers.”

Ken Salkeld, Secretary of the Park Gate Club, was just as quick to snatch up the challenge. They are welcome to come,” he said. “All they have to do is to enroll as associate members. Perhaps if they take all these trophies, some of our own members might sit up and begin to take active notice.”

Conislarough Club, formed only a few months ago, have nearly 40 “competitive members” all eager to do battleā€”if they can find a battle ground.

“We are desperate for land. said Tony. The Club hold another auto-cross event of their own in the middle of May, and have nowhere to stage it.

“If anybody has any land, we are willing to turn it into an auto-cross track, and pay,” said Tony. This will be their third auto-cross. The old track is no longer available, and over 1,000 spectators have turned up to meetings.
