Conisbrough House is Allergic to TV.

Mr and Mr Donald Myers, of 17, Washington Avenue, Conisbrough are beginning to wonder if they have ‘gremlins’ in the house for for in six years they have had to buy six new Television sets as they cannot get a set to work for long in their home, even though the same sets work elsewhere.

Mrs. Myers told a “South Yorkshire Times” reporter that their house had puzzled television engineers, who could not understand while why the sets would not work In their house. She said that at one time TV engineers were calling at the house twice a week to keep their set working, yet when the set was taken in part-exchange for a new one. It worked in another home.

“There isn’t much point In paying our licence as the sets are in for repair more than In the home.” said Mrs. Myers. “There must be ‘gremlins’ In the house. Everything else electrical works all right. We’ve had a new aerial. but it makes no difference”

In Washington Avenue, of the 18 houses all but two have television. Mrs. Myers said that sets in all the other houses were working all right so it could not be a fault In the area, but somewhere In her home. “But I have an electric iron, washer, vacuum cleaner, kettle and fire and they all work all right.” she said

A television engineer Mr. A. E. Gee, of Conisbrough, said he could not understand why the sets would not work in the house. He said he had taken one to his home and had it working perfectly, yet it would not work In the Myers’ home. He said he had never met such a case as this and had never been as puzzled before in mending a set,

Mrs. Myers said they had bought sets of different makes and at different shops, but none would work properly for long in their home.

Mr. Myers, a colliery official at Denaby Main and his wife enjoy spending the long evenings watching television, and while their set is being “investigated” they have now borrowed another from Mr. Gee, “but ten to one that one won’t work in the house,” said Mr Gee.
