Conisborough Needs More Shops
The redevelopment of Conisborough central shopping area is causing some concern among members of Conisborough urban council.
Coun. J. Prendregast told the council on Wednesday that there had for some time been concern over the redevelopment.
The council had hoped to attract business people into the centre and had to some extent been successful. Now some difficulty was arising.
Every effort should be made to channel business people into the area. Falling this the council he said, would have to call in experts for advice.
The council welcomed the redevelopment by Mr. R. Stringer, Market gardener , of vacant land adjoining the chemist’s shop of Mr. E. Dickinson, in West street, Conisborough, which is to be the site of two architect designed shops, with flats above.
The council also noted that the Midland Bank Ltd. had decided not to proceed with the provision of alternative premises for the banks church street branch, and that east Midlands Gas Board were unlikely to replace their existing premises in High street, as a result of their capital expenditure programme.
