Conisbrough Query from Kent
When Last Tram Ran

The “South Yorkshire Times,” with the help of Mexborough and Swinton traction Company, has been able to help settle a “friendly argument” between two “old locals” who are living in the Folkestone area of Kent.

We received the following letter from Mr H. J. Sykes, of Dene Court, 11, Ingles Road, Folkestone, Kent: “to settle an argument between two old locals will you please forward to me today on which the last tram car ran from Conisbrough to Rotherham by the Mexborough and Swinton Tramways co.”

A helpful official of the traction company gave the following information: “the last of the old tram cars run on Saturday, March 9, 1929, the complete changeover to trolleybuses took place the following day, Sunday, March 10th 1929. Tram cars did not run from Rotherham to Conisborough but from Rotherhasm to the old toll bar, Mexborough.”
