The key of the former Conisbrough Recreation Hall which started in 1910 as a centre for youth and, which has now been converted into a community centre for old folk, was handed over to the management committee on Wednesday.

Trustees of the hall in Elm Green Lane, Conisbrough, handed the building over to Conisbrough Urban Council about four years ago when it fell into disuse because of lack of support.

Alterations to the building are now complete and at Wednesday’s meeting of the council, the chairman Coun. J. Prendagast handed the key to Coun. Mrs. D. Limer, chairman of the Community Centre Management Committee.

It was agreed to invite the original trustees to the opening ceremony, when a date is fixed. Coun. T. Hill paid tribute to the part played by former Trustee and Recreational Hall chairman Mr J.J. Urch of 21a Church Street
