Conisbrough Sweetheart’s Experience

Ernest Hartley, of Conisbrough, miner, denied that he had used violent language on Saturday week.

PC Knowles and PC Briggs said that he was guilty, and added that the young fellow was under the influence of drink.

Hartley said he had been out “spooning” with a young lady, and as they were going home to Conisborough five young chaps insulted the girl, and, of course, he had to say something.

The ruffians had cleared off when the police came.

Fined half a sovereign altogether.
