Conisbrough’s Good Season

Cricket Club in Happy Mood

“ This has been a good season, both from a playing and financial point of view,” the general secretary, Mr. A. J. Chadwick, told members of Conisbrough Cricket Club at their annual meeting on Wednesday.

Mr. Chadwick said that the season before last was a poor one but now the position was completely reversed. The club was in a better financial position and the first and second elevens had had a very successful season.

He said that he was very disappointed to note that there had been a severe discrepancy in subscriptions this year. The figure had fallen from 176 to 107 in two years, he said, and he hoped that that would not continue.

It was decided to enter the Doncaster League (first and second divisions), the Mexborough Evening League and the Mexborough Knock-out competition.

The W. P. Turner Trophy, for the most improved young player, was won by 18-years-old Albert Sanderson.

Members accepted the resignation of Mr. Chadwick, a teacher at Conisbrough Northcliffe School and general secretary for five years, and tributes were paid to his devoted service.

Mr. G. Hepworth was elected President and Mr. H. S. Peet, chairman. Other officials elected were: Vice-chairman, Mr, A. J. Chadwick; cricket secretary, Mr. H. Ellis; financial secretary, Mr. W. Thompson, general secretary, Mr.G. Race; 1st eleven captain, D. Straw, vice-captain, J. Blackburn; 2nd eleven captain, D. Rowe, vice-captain, D. Turner
