Cyclists Conduct at Conisbro

Arthur Champkins, a Balby miner, was fined five shillings and costs for failing to give warning of his approach on 8th of November, when he was cycling through Conisborough. Going at 10 or 12 miles an hour, a knockdown colliery contractor Lewis Conwell PC Briggs and a narrow escape.

The Chairman commented severely upon the conduct of some cyclists.

β€œThe practice of giving warning as they approach appears,” he said,” to have fallen into disuse altogether. So long as that continues the police will have to take action.”

A fitter named Ernest Champkins , was similarly summoned but he was discharged
