South Yorkshire Times, June 13.

Date for Denaby Library.

The new Denaby Main branch library, which will eventually stock over 11,000 books, is to be opened June 26 by the chairman of the West Riding Education Committee, Councillor C.K Roe.

It will be one of four such County Council branches to be opened in the first half of this year.

Some 8000 volumes will be immediately available, including 1000 volumes of adult non-fiction. Books of a local nature will form part of a reference collection of 300 volumes. A comprehensive selection of 2200 novels will also be available.

In the children’s section there will be 1200 stories from which to choose and 1300 factual books to foster individual interests.

The total number of books will eventually exceed 11,000 volumes.

New Building.

Two thirds of the front elevation of the building is glass, and in this way the interior is visible to passers-by whether the library is open or closed. The maximum amount of natural light is provided by regularly spaced fibreglass rooflights and the high level panel’s of Opal Glass

Electric underfloor heating is used on the “off-peak” tally, and the building is fully insulated to retain heat. In this way there are no visible heating appliances and the maximum use can be made of space for library purposes.

The building was designed by the County Architect in consultation with the County Librarian

Library provision to Denaby Main began in 1931, and the library is at present housed in a room in the Miners Welfare Institute. Mrs V.A. Smith was in charge of the part-time branch library for 22 years until she retired in June 1962.

The hours of opening will be as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10 am to 1 pm, 2 to 5 pm.

Wednesday 10 am to 1 pm.

Saturday 10 am to 1 pm
