Macabre Incident in Denaby Woman’s Life

A strange,rather terrifying incident which occurred at Carlton, near Barnsley, over 50 years ago, is recalled by the death, which occurred on Saturday at her home of Mrs Mary Beasley, 58 Braithwell Street, Denaby Main.

When Mr Beasley was 12 years of age and was living with their parents at Carlton, she was a victim of a severe illness and, as her parents thought, died.

She was laid out, the coffin was ordered and the funeral arranged a. On the third day when the girl was about to be lifted into her coffin, the mother thought she detected a slight movement of the child’s eyes, and ran 3 miles to Smithies for a doctor.

It was then discovered that she was not dead, but had been in a deep coma.

She recovered, and lived another 56 years being 68 at the time of her funeral. The funeral took place at Denaby Main on Tuesday.
