Death of Mr S.T. Simpson

It is with deep regret that we have to record the death of Mr Simeon Taylor Simpson, of Conisborough which occurred on Friday morning, the 21st inst, at the mature age of 79.

The deceased was a native of Conisborough, and occupied the position of manager at the Ashfield Fire Clay Works for upwards of 30 years.

For about half a century, no convivial gatherings seemed complete unless he made one of the company, his original composition of song and rhyme making happy moments glide swiftly by, his fighting effusions all having a local origin, referring to some popular local event and were duly appreciated.

He had enjoyed a robust constitution and good health throughout, but had gradually declined in the past few years.

He was interred at Cairo church on Monday afternoon, the Rev J.G. Wood, the vicar officiating.

In politics, he belonged to the old Whig party.
